Awards

  • Third Prize in the Quantum Dice Trinity Challenge 2026 – awarded to Tinh Thanh Bui and Hoang Phi Yen Duong. The challenge invites innovators to explore probabilistic computing by developing solutions to real-world optimization problems. They received a £1,000 cash award for their project, which used Quantum Dice’s ORBIT platform to optimize data routing in dynamic low-Earth-orbit satellite networks.
  • First Place Overall in Canada in the Capstone Challenge of the IBM Quantum Road to Practitioner (R2P) Program – awarded to Sasinda C. Prabhashana, Yuxiang Zheng, Nhien Q. T. Thoong, and Quan T. Dao. The challenge evaluates participants’ knowledge and practical skills in quantum computing.
  • Bronze Award at the IEEE ISIT 2026 Global Quantum Hackathon – awarded to Tinh T. Bui, Quan T. Dao, Sasinda C. Prabhashana, Yuxiang Zheng, and Nhien Q. T. Thoong. Organized by the IEEE Information Theory Society, the hackathon was held alongside ISIT 2026 in Guangzhou, China. Their project was titled “Quantum Optimization for UAV Swarm Deployment in ISAC-Assisted Disaster Relief.”
  • Third Place at the IBM watsonx Hackathon 2026 – awarded to Quan T. Dao, Sasinda C. Prabhashana, and Tinh T. Bui. The IBM watsonx Hackathon, organized by IBM and Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), brings together participants to develop innovative solutions using IBM watsonx technologies.
  • Local Winner of Canadian Medical Datathon 2026 – awarded to Quan T. Dao, Nhien Q. T. Thoong, Yuxiang Zheng, and Sasinda C. Prabhashana. The Canadian Medical Datathon is a national competition that brings together researchers and students to develop innovative data science and AI solutions for real-world healthcare challenges.
  • N2Women: Rising Stars in Networking and Communications List 2025 – awarded to Dr. Elif Ak in recognition of outstanding research excellence and significant contributions to networking and communications.
  • Best Paper Award – IEEE 7th Computing, Communications and IoT Applications Conference (IEEE ComComAp 2025) Dec 2025, Madrid, Spain.
  • President of ASEAN Research Network – Established under the Passage to ASEAN (P2A) initiative, it supports regional research collaboration and academic partnerships across 145 Southeast Asian universities.
  • Best Paper Award – 2024 IEEE Communications Society’s Transmission, Access, and Optical Systems (TAOS). This award is selected based on the best paper of GCSN symposia from both ICC 2024 and GLOBECOM 2024.

  • IEEE NL Graduate Scholarship 2025 – awarded to Sasinda C. Prabhashana in recognition of his outstanding academic excellence and meaningful contributions to the IEEE.

  • CommSoft TC Achievement Award– awarded to Dr. Elif Ak in recognition of her innovative contributions to Networked Digital Twins and commitment to diversity in STEM.
  • Best Paper Award – IEEE ICC 2025 Workshop on “Data-Driven and AI-Enabled Digital Twin Networks and Applications”, held in June 2025 in Montreal, Canada.
  • Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (50,000 CAD/year for three years), awarded to Tinh Bui for exceptional academic excellence, research potential, and leadership.
  • 100 Brilliant and Inspiring Women in 6G – awarded to Dr. Bishmita Hazarika in recognition of her outstanding contributions to 6G research and innovation.
